· Will help equip crew workstations that control electrical, propulsion and nuclear systems
Abaco Systems today announced that it has been chosen by one of the world’s premier shipbuilding companies to help equip state of the art aircraft carriers. Abaco XCR16 6U rugged CompactPCI® computers will be at the heart of crew workstations located throughout each ship that will provide access to the craft’s electrical, propulsion and nuclear systems. Depending on the specific functionality of the workstation, between two and 17 XCR15s will be installed in each workstation chassis.
The potential value of the program to Abaco is estimated at close to $2 million.
“Whether it’s VPX, VME or CompactPCI, Abaco has a range of advanced products that enable our customers to choose precisely the right solution,” said John Muller, Chief Growth Officer, Abaco Systems. “No less valuable in this case to our customer was our ability to quickly modify our standard product in line with program requirements, helping to ensure that the customer’s timeline remained on track. We’re delighted to have been chosen for this critical program.”
The XCR15 6U CompactPCI rugged single board computer utilizes an Intel Core i7 dual/quad processor operating at up to 2.5GHz, and supports up to 16 GBytes of memory. The processor also brings Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) signal processing, and intelligent performance on-demand with Intel Turbo Boost technology. The XCR15 provides support for two XMC/PMC mezzanine sites as well as Gigabit Ethernet, VGA, DVI, audio, SATA, serial and GPIO. Both front I/O and rear I/O are possible. Operating system support includes Linux®, VxWorks® and Windows® 7.
